What a week! What a year and it’s only March! We all thought 2020 was going to be an amazing year, living our best lives but God had other plans for us. Are you feeling anxious or stressed during the coronavirus? You’re not alone and I’m sharing some tips that can help you on this post.
I don’t know about you, but I’ve been struggling this week. First, day lights savings got the best of me and I’ve been having such a hard time getting sleep and rest. A few days later the whole coronavirus took a different direction as the virus got declared a pandemic.
Currently there are about 125,000 cases and 4,290 deaths worldwide due to coronavirus. The virus can infect anyone, but older people are more prone to it. Those 60-years or older are more likely to get infected and people with chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, lung disease or heart disease.
If you are or know anyone who is at higher risk of getting the virus make sure to take this serious and take the necessary precautions:
- Wash your hands
- Limit close contact
- Avoid crowds
- Avoid cruise travel and air travel
- Stay home to avoid getting exposed
The coronavirus becoming a pandemic and big events in our communities getting canceled or pushed back made everyone realize how serious the situation really is. The country is shutting down, stores are getting whipped out, people are stocking up on food and essentials like if it’s the end of the world, and panic is spreading.
I’m not scared of the virus and not because I’m healthy or less at risk, but I’m more scared of how people are reacting. We can’t control the situation, but we sure can control our actions.
I was at the grocery store earlier and I couldn’t believe my eyes. The water isle was cleaned out people had their carts loaded with waters, pasta, canned food, food for days and no toilet paper at all, hand sanitizer or disinfecting wipes. I felt like I was in one of those movies we’re it’s the end of the world and people are going crazy. The last thing we need is for us to turn against each other over toilet paper or basic necessities.
I bought some gloves, one gallon of water, and cheese, which took about 30 minutes just to check out. That’s a really long time I don’t think I’ve ever taken that long to check out from a grocery store. I walked out of there super overwhelmed. Seeing everyone with their carts loaded with food and supplies I couldn’t believe it and for a moment I thought to myself, “Should I go and load up?”
Well I don’t know about you, but I think people are over reacting. Yes, gather your necessities and food but with moderation and think about others.
Another reason why I was so bumped out was because I had planned a trip for April. I was very excited and happy about this trip because damn I need it and I need a getaway, but on Wednesday night when everything crumbled down I was stuck in a dilemma. I didn’t know if to take a risk and continue with my plans or simply cancel the trip.
Well after seeing that major events had been canceled like the NBA, Coachella, Stagecoach, colleges and schools closing, the stock market crashing, now Broadway, MLS, Disneyland and so on I made the call and canceled the entire trip. One thing we must understand is that even though we are not at a high risk of getting the virus or getting very sick we might bring the virus with us and infect others who are not as healthy.
In order to stop the spread of the coronavirus we must all take precautions and not just think about ourselves, but others. Yes, flight tickets are super cheap right now maybe at their lowest and although we all want to jump on a flight and go live our best lives we must think about what’s at risk. I urge to those who are planning to travel to please think about it twice before you hop on that plane. You might go and take that virus with you or come back and bring it with you, risking so many.

I’ve been overwhelmed, nervous and a bit scared seeing how the country is slowly shutting down. If you are going through it and feeling anxious or stressed during the coronavirus it’s okay and you’re not alone. Those who struggle with mental health or anxiety are being triggered by the current pandemic, but they are not alone.
This virus is keeping people on their toes, but if you find yourself feeling more anxious, stressed or nervous than ever—breathe, and know that you’re not alone. There are plenty of resources out there and you shouldn’t deal with this alone. Feeling anxious or stressed during the coronavirus?
Here are 5 tips that I’m giving you on how to keep your chill:
- Wash your hands and take your vitamins – taking precautions and keeping your immune system strong will reduce the risk of catching the virus.
- Talk to someone – it’s okay to feel all of these emotions you’re not the only one, but talking to someone can help you let go, relieve you and not have to bottle everything up.
- Get the facts – it’s easy to get caught up and believe everything you read. Make sure you are getting your facts from reliable sources not everything out there especially in social media is real. Stay informed.
- Don’t over analyze – Face the facts and stay informed but don’t over do it. Limit your time reading about coronavirus because the more you read and look into it the more it’s going to overwhelm you or cause more anxiety.
- Relax – Take the time to breathe and chill. We’re in the middle of an outbreak and there is not much we can do. Although some of our lives might be on hold don’t let that stop you from doing what you enjoy. Catch up on your favorite series, show, watch a movie, read a book, take a nice warm bath –self care.
